The Society was formed in 1980 to cater for the gardening needs of the local community and from small beginnings has grown to a membership of over eighty people. Between October and May we hold monthly evening meetings at Redlynch Village Hall with a variety of interesting and entertaining speakers on horticultural, natural world, and local interest topics. Plant sales are held during April and May.
To encourage those who wish to grow vegetables and flowers to show we have a Vegetable Club that meets between October and August at Hale Village Hall under the guidance of David Shergold.
The Society Meetings are held at the Redlynch Village Hall. Meetings are on the third Tuesday of the month. The Annual Show is held on the August Bank Holiday Monday at Redlynch Village Hall and, with the kind permission of Paul and Cherry Bromage, the show also includes a marquee at Brambles, Vicarage Road opposite the Hall.

The Annual Show gives everyone an opportunity to exhibit flowers and vegetables and some of our growers have gone on to exhibit at regional and national shows. But the Show is not all about competition; more a celebration of what we have grown and cultivated during the year and beginners can find a class to enter as leisure gardeners (of which most of us are), in addition we have classes for arts and crafts, cookery, photography and wine; so there really is something for everyone whatever your ability or age and plenty of people to help when needed. Also, in recent years the Society has exhibited as a group at the Dorset Federation Show with notable success.
As a Society we also organise an annual weekend coach holiday and an annual coach day trip. New members are always welcome. The annual member’s subscription is £10.
If you are interested in joining us please contact the Chair, David Shergold, on 01725 511404 or come to see us at one of our meetings (there is a nominal £4 fee for non-members at meetings but you can join on the day for £10).
